Preface
A. Acknowledgements for Financial Support
From March to July 1989 and from August 1990 to the present Dr. Reed has been working with the photographs at the Ancient Biblical Manuscript Center and from August 1989 through July 1990 he worked with the fragments and photographs at the Rockefeller Museum. A Dorot Fellowship made it possible for Dr. Reed to work on the project from March to July 1989 at the ABMC and spend a year in Jerusalem working on revising and updating these lists. The Ancient Biblical Manuscript Center has provided funding for work at the Center from August 1990 through June of 1991. Additional funding has been made available since July 1991 by grants from the Dorot Foundation, the Annenberg Institute, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
B. Purpose of this fascicle
Our goal is to produce a computerized database which will include information about photographs, documents and museum plates of the Dead Sea Scrolls. A computerized database will allow scholars to conduct different searches according to their particular research needs.
It is our intention to make the information in the lists available to scholars as quickly as possible. Since it will take some time before the computerized database will be complete, we have decided to compose preliminary lists of each of the particular collections (such as Cave 1, the Minor Caves, Murabba`at and 4Q128-4Q186) and make these lists available to interested people in photocopy form. We wish to emphasize that these lists are still preliminary. The final database will include more information.
Much care has been taken to ensure that the information in these lists is accurate, but inevitably errors enter such a work. We would be appreciative if you would contact us about errors you find or additional information about the photographs of 11Q documents at the Ancient Biblical Manuscript Center, Box 670, Claremont, CA 91711. (714) 621-6451. Fax number: 714-621-1481.
C. Assistance for Work
The production of these lists has involved the skills of many people. Over the years some preliminary and partial lists were produced by the original editors and by museum officials. The most comprehensive lists before I began my work were prepared by Elisha Qimron in 1981. Further updates were added in 1985 to these lists by Qimron and John Strugnell. All of these lists were made available to me by John Strugnell when I began updating the materials. I wish to acknowledge their contribution without which my work would have been far more difficult.
A Dorot Fellowship made it possible for me to spend a year in Jerusalem working on revising and updating these lists. The Ancient Biblical Manuscript Center has provided me funding for my work at the Center from August 1990 through June 1991. Beginning in July 1991 funding has been provided by the National Endowment of Humanities, the Annenberg Institute and the Dorot Foundation. From March to July 1989 and from August 1990 to the present I have been working with the photographs at the Ancient Biblical Manuscript Center and from August 1989 through July 1990 I worked with the fragments and photographs at the Rockefeller Museum.
The Israel Antiquities Authority staff at the Rockefeller Museum helped me find appropriate fragmentary and photographic materials at the museum. Joe Zias, Curator, gave me access to the materials. Ruth Peled, Marcia Sharabani and Donald Ariel also provided assistance. Ayala Sussmann and Ronny Reich allowed me access to the photographs. Magen Broshi, Curator of the Shrine of the Book, aided us in finding particular plates that had been moved to the Shrine of the Book for storage or conservation. The members of the Advisory Committee, composed of Amir Drori, Ayala Sussmann, Jonas Greenfield, Magen Broshi and Shemaryahu Talmon, have provided editorial assistance in the overall preparation of these lists.
The staff of the Ancient Biblical Manuscript Center helped me obtain access to the materials, provided administrative help, guidance and advice. James A. Sanders has provided overall direction for the project. Former directors, Peter Pettit and Steve Delamarter, as well as the current acting director, Bruce Zuckerman, and Marilyn Lundberg, Associate Director, have provided much support.
Editors of the materials have provided a great deal of information. John Strugnell, international editor in chief while I was in Jerusalem, provided help in updating these lists and answering various questions that I had that arose while working on them. Editors of the current international team, Emmanuel Tov, Eugene Ulrich and Emile Puech, have also provided assistance. Martin Abegg and Ben Zion Wacholder sent helpful corrections to an earlier list of cave 11 photographs.
Every item of the lists here has been checked and
verified by us at the Ancient Biblical Manuscript Center or
in Jerusalem at the Rockefeller Museum. Randall Reed provided word processing assistance for the bibliographic entries.

I. Introduction
Information concerning the 11Q documents is arranged in three lists in this fascicle: documents, photographs and museum plates. In the document list the documents are listed sequentially according to their designated numbers by the editors. Included in this list are the photographs which pertain to each document as well as the present location of the fragments. In the photograph list the photographs which pertain to 11Q documents are given according to the inventory numbers assigned in each photographic collection. The museum plate list includes a list of the museum plates which contain 11Q materials.
The document list is cross-referenced to the other two lists. It is expected that scholars would first refer to this list and then if they want further information about the photographs or museum plates they can refer to the other two lists. There is some duplication of information in the three lists but because there is often no one-to-one correspondence among documents, photographs and museum plates all three are necessary to provide all of the information that scholars may need in their research.
The PAM and IAA collections at the Rockefeller Museum have been catalogued. Photographs made by Yigael Yadin of Fragment E of the Psalms scroll and the Temple Scroll are presumably at the Shrine of the Book but they have not yet been inventoried. The high contrast photographs produced by Robert Schlosser of the paleoLeviticus scroll given the numbers SHR 33532-33541 as well as the infra-red photograph produced by the Laboratorire de Recherchs des Mus‚es de France, A 8083 mentioned by Puech, RB 96 (1989) 183 have not been examined. In 1988 Bruce Zuckerman of the West Semitic Research Project, and his brother Kenneth, made a set of photographs of the Verso side of the Temple Scroll for Elisha Qimron, Professor at Beersheba University, for a new edition of the Temple Scroll. This series is prefaced by JWS (Jerusalem West Semitic Research Project Collection).
An unpublished fragment of 11Q17 ShirShabb found in pl. 669 which contained 4Q fragments was placed in pl. 618 with other 11Q17 ShirShabb fragments according to John Strugnell’s instruction. There is no photograph of this fragment.
Most of the 11Q material is located at the Rockefeller Museum. Exceptions include the Temple Scroll which is at the Shrine of the Book. Although Fragment E of the Psalms scroll was acquired by Yigael Yadin, presently it is at the Rockefeller Museum. Three of the plates of the Psalms scroll are presently on display or in storage at the Shrine of the Book. The long piece of the 11QtgJob on museum plate 638 is probably at the Shrine of the Book. Fragment L of paleoLeviticus is in the possession of Professor George Roux of France.
The Temple scroll fragments published on pl. 40* of Yadin: 9,13,14,15 (possibly they were on missing museum plate 616) and the paleoLeviticus fragments B,E,M have not been found in the Rockefeller Museum.
Some of the fragmentary materials found in boxes do not seem to have been photographed particularly on museum plates 1020,1025,1027,563. Some of the fragments of museum plate 578 do not seem to have been photographed.
ÿÿ Two key articles have been used for cataloguing the documents: Mart¡nez, F. Garc¡a, “Texts from Cave 11,” Forty Years of Research in the Dead Sea Scrolls (Haifa Congress; 1991?); Ploeg, J. P. M. van der, “Les Manuscrits de la grotte XI de Qumrƒn,” RevQ 12 (1985-87) 3-15. These articles contain fairly complete descriptions of the documents, even those which are not published.
The document list is largely based on the numbering of documents found in the article by F. Garc¡a Mart¡nez. He indicates that not all documents have been assigned numbers. He estimates that there may be between 25 and 30 MSS. More than 50 fragments still remain to be assigned to documents. F. Garc¡a Mart¡nez will be editing the rest of the 11Q fragments in a DJD volume.
There are some typographic errors which should be noted in these articles. In the final publication of the article by Mart¡nez some of these errors may be corrected.
Typographic errors in van der Ploeg article:
1. PAM 40.006 on p. 12 for 11Q16 Hymnsb should be 44.006
2. 44.033 on p. 10 for 11Q3 Deut should be 44.003 (noted by Mart¡nez)
3. 44.044 on p. 9 should be 44.114 (noted by Mart¡nez)
Typographic errors in Mart¡nez article:
1. 44.001 for 11QLev should be 44.011
2. 11QApPsa only goes to 43.988 not 43.992
3. 11QShirShabb goes from 43.989-43.992
4. 11QNJ goes from 43.993-44.002
5. 43.033 is not 11QDeut, 44.003 is
6. 43.488 for 11QShirShabb should be 43.448
7. All the fragments on 43.978 have been edited by Yadin even though Mart¡nez says there are still 3 unedited fragments on the photograph.
In the Temple Scroll Volume Three: Supplementary Plates Yadin included photographs of fragments of other documents from Cave 4 and Cave 11 which he thought were further copies of the Temple Scroll. Not all scholars have agreed that these fragments are from the Temple Scroll. Yadin published one fragment 11QTempleb frg 15 pl. 40* which had previously been identified as fragment 3 of 11QBerakah. Following Mart¡nez this fragment will be identified as frg 3 of 11QBerakah. Fragments 1-2 on pl. 40* and fragment 5 on pl. 38* are part of 4Q365 Pentateuchal Paraphraseb according to John Strugnell. In the card concordance fragment 5 on pl. 38* was referred to as (JNh) New Jerusalem in Hebrew. Photographs for these fragments will be given under the documents of Cave 4 assigned to John Strugnell.
Under each of the following documents mention is given of the editio princeps when possible. This is not a complete bibliography. Priority is given to articles which contain photographs and translations of pertinent texts. For bibliographic information on the 11Q documents see Joseph A. Fitzmyer, The Dead Sea Scrolls: Major Publications and Tools for Study, Scholars Press, 1990 and F. Garc¡a Mart¡nez, “Lista de MSS procedentes de Qumran,” Henoch 11, 1989, pp. 149-232. For general information see Stephen A. Reed, “Survey of the Dead Sea Scrolls Fragments and Photographs at the Rockefeller,” BA 54 (March 1991) 44-51.

IV. 11Q Museum Plates at Rockefeller
There are some plates of 11Q fragments which will probably never be published. Some of these were previously labeled. Here they are labeled X1 through X13 according to the order of the plates in the Rockefeller. Some of these boxes also have a sort of numbering system which is unknown to me. I have indicated which notes are on the boxes.
